Consumer & retail

Luxury & jewellery. Purity is now proved piece by piece.

Trust is still earned at the counter and on the screen.

Jewellers, watch and luxury houses, from bridal gold to laboratory-grown diamonds and pre-owned pieces, where every purchase carries a purity mark, a price that moves daily and a story the buyer checks. We design the catalogues, counters and online journeys that show hallmarks, prices and provenance plainly, and the systems that keep them true.

What is shifting

The hallmark went digital, and the word “diamond” got rules.

Every piece now carries its own ID, large cash sales bring reporting duties, and laboratory-grown stones need a name of their own. Each shift names what it demands, with a fact you can check.

Ornate gold rings set in rows on a black velvet tray
Six characters now prove each piece’s purity.
  1. Purity moved from the jeweller’s word to a code the buyer can check.

It demandsProduct pages, invoices and counters that show the hallmark and explain how to verify it.

SignalUnder BIS hallmarking, each piece carries the BIS mark, its purity in carat and fineness and a six-digit HUID that buyers can check in the BIS Care app.

  2. Mandatory hallmarking keeps reaching new districts.

It demandsOne hallmark-first catalogue and invoice for every store, whichever district it sits in.

SignalBIS has amended the Mandatory Hallmarking Order of 23 June 2021 several times since, most recently on 3 August 2026.

  3. Laboratory-grown diamonds sit beside natural ones on the same screen.

It demandsNaming and disclosure that leave no doubt which stone a buyer is looking at.

SignalBIS has issued IS 19469:2025 on diamond terminology, reserving the unqualified word “diamond” for natural stones.

  4. Large cash purchases now come with reporting duties.

It demandsStore and online journeys that ask for KYC only when the rules require it, and keep it safe.

SignalSince a notification of 28 December 2020, dealers in precious metals and stones are reporting entities under the PMLA for cash transactions of ₹10 lakh or more.

Advertising & claims

Shapes most of the work

  1. Central Consumer Protection Authority

    CCPA misleading-ads guidelines, 2022

Claims such as “lowest price” or “zero making charges” must be substantiated, with their conditions stated; the guidelines set conditions for bait and free-claim advertisements.

We designOffers are written with their conditions on the same screen as the headline.

CCPA · Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisements and Endorsements, 9 June 2022 Official text: CCPA misleading-ads guidelines, 2022

  2. Central Consumer Protection Authority

    CCPA dark-patterns guidelines, 2023

Drip pricing — revealing charges only late in the purchase — and false urgency are named unfair practices, alongside eleven others.

We designThe full price breakdown is visible from the first screen, and urgency appears only when it is true.

CCPA · Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns, 30 November 2023 Official text: CCPA dark-patterns guidelines, 2023

  3. Bureau of Indian Standards

    Diamond terminology standard, IS 19469:2025

Reserves the word “diamond” used alone for natural stones and names laboratory-grown stones as such, without descriptors that suggest a natural origin.

We designEvery catalogue, certificate view and campaign names the stone the same way, with its certificate beside it.

BIS · IS 19469:2025, diamond terminology (adapted from ISO 18323)

Sector regulator

Shapes most of the work

  1. Bureau of Indian Standards

    BIS mandatory hallmarking and HUID

In covered districts, gold jewellery is sold hallmarked with the BIS mark, purity in carat and fineness and a six-digit HUID; the bill states each article’s net weight, purity and hallmarking charges.

We designProduct pages, store screens and invoices show the hallmark and how to verify it in the BIS Care app.

BIS · Mandatory Hallmarking Order of 23 June 2021, as amended (latest 3 August 2026) · BIS jeweller FAQs Official text: BIS mandatory hallmarking and HUID

  2. Ministry of Finance · FIU-India

PMLA duties for dealers in precious metals and stones

Dealers become reporting entities for cash transactions of ₹10 lakh or more with a customer, single or linked: customer due diligence, record-keeping and reports to FIU-India.

We designCash journeys trigger KYC only at the threshold, and records are kept and secured for audit.

Notification under the PMLA, 28 December 2020 · FIU-India guidance for dealers

Payments

Often shapes the work

  1. PCI Security Standards Council

    PCI DSS v4.0.1

Card data protection for online checkouts, including the requirements on scripts running on payment pages in force since 31 March 2025.

We designCheckout pages ship with a script inventory and change detection.

Personal data

Often shapes the work

  1. Ministry of Electronics and IT

DPDP Act, 2023 and DPDP Rules, 2025

KYC copies, ring sizes and wish lists collected per purpose with consent, withdrawal as easy as consent, and breach reporting to the Data Protection Board.

We designKYC documents are stored apart from marketing data and deleted on schedule.

Challenges

What gets in the way in luxury & jewellery.

The problems that surface in nearly every luxury & jewellery programme: the ones customers feel, and the ones teams carry.

Your customers

  1. Is it really what it says?

Purity, stone origin and certification explained before the buyer has to ask.

  2. A price that makes sense

Metal rate, making charges, stones and tax shown as one honest breakdown.

  3. Buying the irreplaceable online

Video consultations, try-at-home and clear exchange terms that make a high-value purchase feel safe.

A craftsman heats small metal pieces with a fine torch on a cluttered jeweller’s bench
The craft takes hours; the price board changes every morning.

Your operation

  1. Prices that move every day

Gold and silver rates change daily, and every catalogue, invoice and offer has to follow.

  2. Every piece is unique

One-off designs, weights and stones make product data hard to keep complete.

  3. The same rules in every outlet

Hallmarking, KYC and offers applied the same way in each store and online.

Work and insights

Published work follows client approval.

We publish luxury & jewellery projects only once a client signs off the write-up. Meanwhile, here is the reading that applies.

A typical programme · composite

A family jeweller with stores in three states moved its catalogue onto one product record holding each piece’s HUID, net weight and price breakdown, so the website, the store tablets and the invoice all show the same numbers.

Anonymised and illustrative: the shape a programme takes, never a named client.

Questions

What retail, e-commerce and compliance heads ask us first.

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly

Q.01Can our website show live gold prices?

Yes. We connect your rate source to the product record, so every page, store screen and invoice recalculates the same way, with the breakdown — metal, making charges, stones and tax — visible before checkout.

Q.02How should we present laboratory-grown diamonds?

As laboratory-grown diamonds, named that way everywhere a buyer meets them, with the certificate shown beside the stone. India’s new diamond terminology standard points the same way; your counsel confirms how it applies to you.

Q.03Do you build for stores as well as online?

Yes: store tablets, appointments and video consultation, clienteling and the website, all reading the same record, so a piece’s hallmark, weight and price never differ between channels.

Q.04Will KYC put buyers off?

It need not. KYC is asked for only where the rules require it, explained in plain words, and stored apart from marketing data.
