Travel, hospitality & leisure

Sports & fitness. Memberships, ticketing and apps that fans and members trust.

We show every fee, warn before each renewal and keep claims within the evidence.

We design memberships, ticketing, fan and member apps and the member data behind them for leagues, clubs, gyms, equipment brands and fitness app makers. Young athletes’ data and health data get extra protection.

What is shifting

Money games are banned, and subscription design is now regulated.

National sports bodies now answer to a statute, and recurring card payments need notice before each debit. Each shift names what it demands, with a fact you can check.

Every seat is now sold, priced and resold on a phone.
  1. Money-game sponsorship has ended.

What it requiresFan engagement, prediction games and partner campaigns rebuilt without stakes.

EvidenceThe Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 bans online games played for money, whether of skill or chance, and their advertising.

  2. Sports bodies now answer to a statute.

What it requiresGovernance, athlete and fan communication that is transparent and on the record.

EvidenceThe National Sports Governance Act, 2025, which received assent on 18 August 2025, sets up recognition and oversight of national sports bodies.

  3. Subscription design is now an enforcement target.

What it requiresJoining and cancelling that take the same effort, with every add-on disclosed up front.

EvidenceThe CCPA’s dark-pattern guidelines illustrate drip pricing with a gym membership that needs undisclosed extra purchases before use.

  4. Recurring payments come with notices and an exit.

What it requiresRenewal journeys that warn before each debit and make stopping easy.

EvidenceUnder the RBI’s e-mandate rules, recurring card debits need a notice before each debit, and debits above ₹15,000 need an extra authentication step.

The rulebook

Honest renewals, protected data and claims you can prove.

We list the consumer, advertising, payment, gaming, device and data rules that apply to a typical programme, and how we design for each. Your legal team keeps sign-off.

Frameworks we build to

  • DPDP Act 2023 — Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023
  • PCI DSS v4.0.1 — Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard
  • WCAG 2.2 AA — Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
  • Core Web Vitals — Loading, interactivity and visual stability

We design and build to these frameworks; this is not a claim of certification.

Advertising & claims

Shapes most of the work

  1. Central Consumer Protection Authority

    CCPA dark-patterns guidelines, 2023

Subscription traps (hard or hidden cancellation, card details for a free trial) and drip pricing are named dark patterns, with a gym membership as the drip-pricing example.

We designCancelling takes no more steps than joining, and every add-on is priced at sign-up.

CCPA · Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns, 30 November 2023 Official text: CCPA dark-patterns guidelines, 2023

  2. Advertising Standards Council of India

    ASCI guidelines for influencer advertising

Creators disclose any material connection with a brand; health and nutrition influencers giving technical advice need a relevant qualification, stated up front.

We designAthlete and creator briefs carry the disclosure label and approved claims only.

Sector regulator

Often shapes the work

  1. Ministry of Electronics and IT

Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025

Online games for money or other stakes, of skill or chance, are banned, along with their advertising and payments. E-sports and online social games are recognised.

We designFan games and partner campaigns are designed without stakes from the brief.

Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 (Act 32 of 2025) · sections 5 to 7 Official text: Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025

  2. CDSCO, Ministry of Health

    Medical-device rules for health claims

Software and wearables intended to diagnose, monitor or treat a condition are regulated as medical devices; fitness features that make such claims cross that line.

We designFeature claims are kept inside general fitness unless the product is cleared as a device.

    Medical Devices Rules, 2017 · notification S.O. 648(E), 11 February 2020

Payments

Shapes most of the work

  1. Reserve Bank of India

    RBI e-mandate framework

Recurring card payments need a notice before each debit and an easy opt-out; debits above ₹15,000 need an extra authentication step.

We designRenewal journeys show every upcoming debit and keep cancellation one step away.

RBI · processing of e-mandates for recurring transactions (₹15,000 without extra authentication)

Personal data

Shapes most of the work

  1. Ministry of Electronics and IT

DPDP Act, 2023 — health and children’s data

Workout, health and wearable data need consent for each purpose. Anyone under 18 needs verifiable parental consent, with no tracking, behavioural monitoring or targeted advertising.

We designAcademy and app sign-ups recognise minors and switch to parental consent and untargeted experiences.

Accessibility

Often shapes the work

  1. W3C

    WCAG 2.2 AA

Ticketing, membership and class booking must work with a keyboard, a screen reader and zoom.

We designSeat maps and class timetables are built as accessible, labelled controls.

Challenges

Where sports & fitness loses customers and time.

What comes up first in most sports & fitness conversations, from customer-facing screens to internal operations.

Your customers

  1. Cancelling as easily as joining

Membership, freezing and cancellation need the same care as sign-up.

  2. Tickets fans can trust

Prices that show every fee, accurate availability and safe transfers.

  3. Progress members can see

Workouts, classes and results that make the habit visible.

Memberships are won in the gym and kept in the app.

Your operation

  1. Seasonal peaks and troughs

Match days, new-year joiners and off-season churn all hit the same systems.

  2. Young athletes and health data

Academies and apps hold children’s and health data that need extra care.

  3. Partners under new rules

Money-game sponsors are gone; new partners need fresh formats.

What we build

Programmes

Audit memberships first, then build the app, journeys and brand.

The membership and ticketing audit tests joining, paying, renewing and cancelling as members and fans do, then ranks fixes by churn and risk. Lengths are typical, never promised.

AI, under the rules

AI coaches and answers members but never diagnoses.

Each use case has an owner, an evaluation set and a log. Health questions go to a qualified person, and young athletes’ data is never used for targeting.

Work and insights

Case studies stay private until a client approves them.

No sports & fitness client is named or described without written approval. Here is what we have written that bears on the industry.

A typical programme · composite

Questions

What commercial, product and membership heads ask us first.

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly

Q.01Can you design memberships that people can cancel easily?

Yes, and we recommend it. The dark-pattern guidelines expect cancelling to be as easy as joining, which tends to reduce complaints and chargebacks. Retention offers sit beside the exit, stated plainly.

Q.02What changed for sponsorship after the online-gaming law?

Online money games, including fantasy contests played for stakes, can no longer be offered or advertised. We help clubs and leagues design partner formats and fan games without stakes; your counsel confirms each partner.

Q.03Do you handle young athletes’ data?

Yes. Sign-ups recognise minors and ask for verifiable parental consent; children get no tracking or targeted advertising, and their data is kept only as long as needed.

Q.04Is our fitness app a medical device?

Not while it stays within general fitness. Features that claim to diagnose, monitor or treat a condition can make it one; we help you keep claims inside the line your counsel sets.
